Naftogaz Director for Business Development Yuriy Vitrenko announces that NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has raised rates for Russian gas monopolist Gazprom's gas transit shipments via Ukraine's territory.
"Finally Ukraine has dramatically raised transit rates for Gazprom," Vitrenko wrote on Facebook.
The rates were raised in full compliance with European principles, he assured.
Gazprom's persistent efforts to bypass the Ukrainian gas route have finally faced an adequate response from Ukraine, he added.
Vitrenko did not elaborate on the size of the increased rates.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was not sure about the need to terminate transit supplies of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine amid scrapping the South Stream project, freezing the Turkish Stream gas pipeline project and uncertain prospects for the Nord Stream 2 project.
