The European Union will give a 30-million-euro grant to Ukraine to continue the implementation of four cross-border cooperation programs that Ukraine's Economic Development Ministry has signed with the European Commission, the ministry's press service reported on Facebook.
"Thanks to the signed agreements, the EU extended until December 31, 2016 Cross-border Cooperation Joint Operational Programs Romania-Ukraine-Republic of Moldova 2007-2013, Poland - Belarus - Ukraine 2007-2013, Hungary - Slovakia - Romania - Ukraine 2007 -2013 and the Black Sea Basin 2007-2013," the press service reported.
According to the report, the funds will be used for further development and modernization of international road border crossing points on Ukraine's border with Romania, Poland and Hungary.
Also, a waterway border crossing point for kayakers will be built in Vylok on the border with Hungary.
Part of the grant package will be channeled into the development of modern IT infrastructure in border and customs service offices, reinforcement of flood hazard areas within the borders, improvement of the environmental situation in the "Lower Danube" region, provision of expertise to integrate Ukraine's and Moldova's power systems into ENTSO-E Continental European Power System.
As UNIAN reported earlier, in spring 2015 Ukraine and the EU began the coordination of the four new cross-border cooperation programs worth up to EUR 350 million for the period of 2016-2020.
In particular, cross-border cooperation programs are as follows: Ukraine-Poland-Belarus (EUR 175.8 mln), Ukraine-Slovakia-Hungary-Romania (EUR 73.9 mln), Ukraine-Romania (EUR 60 mln) and the Black Sea Basin (EUR 39.1 mln).
