The Ukrainian company refers to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law regulations and the Russia-Ukraine intergovernmental agreement on the protection of investments dated November 27, 1998.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's largest bank PrivatBank in summer 2015 initiated arbitration proceedings against the Russian Federation in connection with the loss of investments in Crimea after the annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula by Russia.

Moreover, in late December 2015, the country's leading energy company Naftogaz of Ukraine engaged the law firm of Covington and Burling LLP (New York, the United States) to protect the company's interest in litigation concerning lost shelf assets in the annexed Crimea.
