Iran plans to supply dairy products to Russia

Chief of the Agricultural Committee of the Chamber of Commerce in Tehran Kaveh Zargaran said Iran plans to sell dairy products to Russia starting from January 20, 2016, Russian news agency PRIME reported.

According to Zargaran, four Iranian dairy producers obtained licenses to export their products to the Russian Federation following the inspection by the representatives of Russia's veterinary services.

Zargaran emphasized that Iran's total exports of dairy products currently stands at $670 million, adding that the value of exports may exceed $1 billion after Iranian products gain a foothold in the Russian market.

As reported earlier, Russia has stopped imports of food from Europe in response to the European sanctions, and is considering arranging supplies of the products in demand from other countries.

Harsh trade measures against Ukraine were announced by Russia in response to Ukraine's refusal to postpone the introduction of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. The agreement came into force in full on January 1, 2016.

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers adopted resolutions to ban imports of a number of Russian goods starting from January 10, 2015, including industrial and chemical products, as well as railway equipment. It also introduced import duties.
