Activists block Russian supplier of cigarettes in several Ukraine cities

Hundreds of activists blocked on Tuesday the work of the country’s largest distributor of cigarettes Megapolis-Ukraine, owned by Mercury Group of the Russian oligarch, Igor Kesaev, according to the Ukrainian MP, Serhiy Vysotsky.

It is noted that activists managed to block the warehouses of Megapolis-Ukraine in Kyiv, Lviv, Lutsk, Rivne, Ternopil and Kovel.

The lawmaker stressed that Megapolis - Ukraine was established by the Russian company Megapolis and the family of the ousted ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. While the previous government was in power, the company gained a monopoly status in distribution of cigarettes across Ukraine.

It is reported that Igor Kesaev is also the head of Monolith charity fund: "Even in the statutes of the Fund it is stated that the main task of benefactors is ‘supporting economic, medical, social and cultural needs of the employees of the Russian FSB [Federal Security Service] in need, including retired members and their families," said Vysotsky.

The MP stressed that it is the above-mentioned weapons that kill our troops in Donbas.

The MP also wrote in his Facebook posting that after “Yanukovych fled and the war started, the status of the company didn’t change.” The lawmaker claimed that Ukraine’s Boris Kaufman bought the company’s shares, and his connections in the high offices ensure uninterrupted business.
