Ukrainians sell $1.5 billion more than they buy

The Ukrainians sold to the banks $2.233 billion, buying only $683.9 million throughout 2015, according to the National Bank of Ukraine.

Net sales (excess of sales over purchases) of foreign currency in cash by individuals in Ukraine in 2015 amounted to $1.55 billion, according to a posting on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

The tendency of supply exceeding demand for foreign currency in the cash currency market has been observed for eleven consecutive months, according to the regulator's data.

In 2015, the individuals sold to the banks $2.233 billion and purchased $683.9 million.

In December, the Ukrainians sold $120.7 million in foreign currency than they bought.

According to preliminary data of the National Bank of Ukraine, Ukraine’s international reserves increased increased by 77%, or by $5.767 billion in 2015. As of January 1, 2016, they amounted to $13.3 billion.
