Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn says that Ukraine pays about $190 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas delivered from Europe, which is lower than the price proposed by Russia's OAO Gazprom.
"We buy gas from Europe cheaper [than Russia offers its gas]. Recent transactions were concluded at a price of about $190, possibly even less. We see that this price is much lower than the one offered by Gazprom," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine boosted daily natural gas imports from Slovakia on January 16-17 to 34 million cubic meters, which was 23% up on the previous day. Nowadays, Slovakia covers about 90% of Ukraine's need for gas imports.
NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine in December-January contracted 1.7 billion cubic meters of gas until March 2016. Five European companies will supply this amount of gas at the expense of $300 million lent by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Naftogaz said that the price of natural gas was from $188 to $211 per 1,000 cubic meters.
