Electricity output in Ukraine falls by 10.2% in 2015

Electricity generation in Ukraine in 2015 fell by 10.2% from 2014, to 163.3 billion kWh, according to Ukraine's State Statistics Service.

The Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPPs), which account for almost 60% of the country's overall power generation nowadays, saw a 0.9% decline in electricity output in 2015 from 2014, to 87.6 billion kWh.

Thermal power plants faced a coal deficit amid hostilities in Donbas, which is a key coal producing region, and reduced power generation by 18.7%, to 67.3 billion kWh.

Hydropower plants saw a 25.2% decline in power output in 2015 from 2014, to 6.9 billion kWh.

Electricity output in December 2015 from December 2014 fell by 6.6%, to 15.4 billion. Thermal power plants alone cut output by 0.3%, to 6.4 billion kWh, while the NPPs boosted power generation by 11%, to 8.3 billion kWh.

As UNIAN reported earlier, power generation in Ukraine in 2014 fell by 5.5% from 2013, to 181.9 billion kWh.
