Decline in industrial production in Ukraine in 2015 speeds to 13.4%

A decline in industrial production in Ukraine in 2015 sped to 13.4% from 10.7% registered in 2014, according to Ukraine's State Statistics Service.

Industrial production in December 2015 from December 2014 slowed to 2.1% against 4.9% in November 2015 year-over-year.

However, industrial production in December 2015 from November 2015 grew by 1% after a 1.7% decline in November 2015 year-over-year.

In particular, production of articles made of rubber and plastic grew by 7.1% in December 2015 year-over-year, while production of coke and petrochemicals increased by 6.2%. Machine-building saw a 5.8% rise in output, the pharmaceutical industry posted a 5.1% increase in production, while mining of metallic ore saw a 5% increase and coal production a 2.8% increase.

At the same time, none of the industries demonstrated growth in production in January-December 2015 year-over-year.

The steepest decline in production in December 2015 from December 2014 was seen in electricity and steam generation, gas supplies (10.9%), the chemical industry (8.5%), textile production (7.4%), the food industry (7.3%), crude oil and natural gas production (6.4%).

The steepest decline in production in 2015 from 2014 was demonstrated by coal production (38.1%), production of coke and petrochemicals (21.9%), and metallurgy (16.4%).

The statistical data does not include information from the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol and certain areas in Donbas where the Anti-Terrorist Operation is under way.
