The Moscow Times: Russia's official unemployment hits 1 mln people

The number of officially registered unemployed people in Russia has grown by 3.4% over the past week, and now exceeds 1 million citizens, the TASS news agency reported on Monday, citing the Labour Ministry’s press service, according to The Moscow Times.

Growth in the number of unemployed citizens has been registered in 82 Russian regions between January 20 and January 27, while three regions saw a decline in the unemployment rate, the news agency reported, The Moscow Times wrote.

The regions with the steepest rise in unemployment detected over the past week include, among others, Altai, Tuva, and Bashkortostan.

The Moscow publication also mentions Russian-occupied Crimea on the list of the most affected regions.
