NBU Governor explains reasons for weaker hryvnia

Hryvnia exchange rate fluctuations over the past month were caused by a seasonal slowdown of economic activity, long January holidays, as well as payments from the treasury single account to the tune of UAH 30 billion in December, as well as recent political instability, the NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva reported when speaking in the Ukrainian parliament.

The NBU advocates for the timeliness, regularity and predictability of cash flows in the national economy in the course of the year, including fiscal payments, according to the NBU Governor.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Gontareva stated the exchange rate dynamics has been recently influenced both by fundamental and situational factors.
