At the same time, the sum of all VAT refund arrears is UAH 19 billion, according to Nasirov. Of the amount, about UAH 4 billion is due to be paid to enterprises located in the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone and UAH 4 billion is disputed debt for past years, which may be written off based on a court decision.

"We have reduced the real, actual debt to UAH 11.5 billion from of UAH 23 billion recorded in summer," the Fiscal Service chief said.

Nasirov also informed there were no overdue VAT arrears.

"I expect that we will clear this backlog by summer. It will work this way: as soon as a company's refund has been verified, it will be given the green-light," Nasirov said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the total amount of VAT reimbursements to businesses in January 2016 was UAH 7.887 billion.

Last year, the state paid UAH 68.405 billion in VAT refunds to businesses.
