Ukraine sees 1.4% decline in retail trade in January

The turnover of retail trade in Ukraine shrank by 1.4% in January 2016, as compared to the same period last year, amounting to UAH 81.5 billion, according to the State Statistics Service.

As reported, the deepest decline in retail trade last month was registered in Donetsk and Chernivtsi regions – by 28.3% and 14.7% to UAH 2.6 and UAH 1.1 billion, respectively. At the same time, the best retail turnover growth dynamics were recorded in Luhansk region (up by 82%, to UAH 780 million) in January 2016, as well as Poltava region (up by 13.5%, to UAH 2.8 billion) and Kyiv region (up by 6.7%, to UAH 4 billion). Retail turnover in the city of Kyiv rose last month by 4.3% to UAH 12.8 billion.

At this, companies engaged in retail trade have posted the volume of retail trade of almost UAH 39 billion in the reporting period, which is lower by 18.4% than in January 2015, but higher by 0.1% as compared to December 2015.

It is also reported that wholesale trade in January 2016 amounted to almost UAH 69 billion, which was 7% lower from the same period last year.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the turnover of retail trade in Ukraine shrank by 20.7% in 2015 from 2014, to UAH 1.02 trillion, according to the State Statistics Service.
