Gas consumption in Ukraine reduced by one-third in two years

Ukraine reduced its natural gas consumption by 31% in 2014 and 2015, as compared to 2013, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine reported.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UAA1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reduction in consumption is partially attributed to a decline in industrial output, as well as due to more efficient ways of gas consumption, according to the company's statement.

Thus, gas consumption by households reduced by 26% over the past two years (excluding the temporarily occupied Crimea, Sevastopol, Donetsk and Luhansk regions).

It is worth noting that in the period from 2004 to 2013, gas consumption by the population decreased only by 1%.

"The figures can only be explained by the fact that such things as "energy saving" and "energy efficiency" are gradually becoming part of a lifestyle," the company emphasized in its statement.

As UNIAN reported earlier, according to the Ukrainian Energy Ministry, last year Ukraine reduced its natural gas consumption by 20.9% year-over-year to 33.727 billion cubic meters.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in fulfillment of the Memorandum with the International Monetary Fund, Ukraine's key creditor, the National Commission for State Energy and Public Utilities Regulation increased from April 1, 2015, the minimum price of gas for the population by 3.3 times - up to UAH 3,600 per thousand cubic meters of gas with the consumption volume of up to 200 cubic meters. In off-season - from May 1 to September 30 - the price of natural gas will amount to UAH 7,188 per thousand cubic meters, regardless of the volume of consumption.
