Ukraine, Iran agree on energy cooperation

Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn and Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian, discussed key areas of cooperation in the energy sector during the ongoing visit of the Ukrainian governmental delegation in Tehran, the ministry’s press service has told UNIAN.

"I am amazed at how substantive the discussion is that the Iranian side has been demonstrating. In fact, immediately after the negotiations, meetings are held with representatives of Ukrainian companies, with discussions over concrete issues and detailed study of projects," the press service quoted Demchyshyn as saying.

According to the report, the two ministers during the meeting agreed to start work on projects for participation of Ukrainian enterprises in the modernization of Iran's energy infrastructure as well as the thermal and hydro power generation. In particular, the talks covered construction and modernization of 40kV power grids. Involvement of Ukrainian specialists in maintenance, modernization and safety projects at Bushehr nuclear power plant has also already been discussed.

Read alsoUkraine’s piece of Iranian pieThe press service noted that the Iranian side, in turn, expressed willingness to participate in the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, organization of oil deliveries to Odesa and of gas from South Pars (area near Iran) via Turkey and Ukraine to Europe.

Iranian Energy Minister also expressed interest in participating in the privatization of Ukraine’s energy facilities, as Ukraine has opened access to them due to market reform.
