Gazprom raises its claims against Naftogaz to almost $32 bln

Russian gas monopoly Gazprom has increased the amount of its claims against Ukraine's state energy company NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine from $29.2 billion to $31.759 billion, the company's press service reported.

"PJSC Gazprom has specified its claims against NJSC Naftogaz Ukraine with the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) under the gas purchase contract dated January 19, 2009," a statement reads.

"The volume of Gazprom's claims, taking into account an additional claim over the payment of $2.549 billion for shortfall in gas volumes in Q3 of 2015 under "take or pay" terms totals $31.759 billion," Gazprom said in its statement.

The company noted that in 2015, the "take or pay" term was not applied to Ukraine in Q1, Q2, and Q4.

Naftogaz substantiated its claims and filed lawsuits with the Stockholm arbitration institute regarding a contract for the supply of gas in January 2015.

Another litigation was started over alleged violation of contractual terms on transiting natural gas through Ukraine.

Gazprom is expected to submit its review on Naftogaz's claim to Stockholm arbitration institute by October 9.
