Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods grows to $295 mln in Jan

A deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in commodities in January 2016 grew to $295 million, which is 7.6 times up on year-over-year, when the deficit was estimated at $38.8 million.

Goods exports from Ukraine in January 2016 from January 2015 fell by 31.9%, to $2.043 billion, while goods imports to Ukraine decreased by 23%, to $2.338 billion, the State Statistics Service said.

The ratio of coverage of imports by exports was 0.87 (0.99 in January 2015).

Ukraine traded with partners from 179 countries and regions.

The largest batches of goods were shipped to Russia (7.9%), Spain and Poland (6.3% each), Turkey (5.9%), China (5.5%), Germany (5.4%), Italy (5.3%), the Netherlands (5.1%), Egypt (4.9%), India (4.1%), and Hungary (3.6%). Total exports to the EU slid by 11.7% in January 2016 from January 2015, to $950.9 million. Exports to the EU accounted for 46.5% of total exports.

Imports from the EU decreased by 17.2%, to $963 million and accounted for 41.2% of all imports.

Exports to Russia decreased by 45.1%, to $160.6 million, while imports from that country fell by 57.6%, to $268.3 million.

The statistical data does not include information from the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol and certain areas in Donbas where the Anti-Terrorist Operation is under way.
