Transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to the European Union increased in March 2016 by 42% year-over-year to 6.8 billion cubic meters (bcm), said Maksym Bielawski, the spokesperson for state-owned Ukrtransgaz, the operator of the country's gas transportation system.
"Transportation of gas to European consumers has been performed according to the applications received and in a due time. A total of 6.8 bcm of gas was transported to the EU in March, which was higher by 2 bcm than last year," Bielawski said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to the European Union, Moldova and Turkey increased in January-February 2016 by 60% to 12.57 bcm as compared to the same period last year.

As was reported earlier, in October 2014, Naftogaz appealed to the Stockholm Arbitration Court seeking revision of its natural gas transit contract with Gazprom, as well as compensation from Gazprom for the shortfall in gas transit volumes.
