The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed former head of the Polish Railways Wojciech Balczun to the post of Chairman of the Board of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
A relevant decision was taken unanimously at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, April 20.
He was selected by the selection committee under the Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry from among 31 applicants, including eight foreigners.
Balczun is said to have over 15 years of professional experience, including seven years of top management positions in Polish railway transport as Supervisory Board Chairman at Polish Railways RRB and CEO at PKP Cargo. Under his management PKP Cargo virtually became a competitor for Deutsche Bahn, according to Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius.

Balczun is also known as a frontman and guitarist of Polish popular rock band Chemia.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia was turned into a public joint-stock company in December 2015. The Economic Development and Trade Ministry announced a contest to select a new chairman for the company.
