Cold water tariffs to grow by 15% amid higher electricity bills

Deputy Director of the water supplies department at the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) Dmytro Solomka says cold water tariffs will increase by an average of 15% following the growth in electricity rates.

"Commenting on the situation with cold water tariffs, they are expected to grow. We plan that the average growth [of tariffs] will be 15%," Solomka said.

He also stressed that the main causes behind the increase in cold water tariffs were higher tariffs for electricity, as well as declining consumption.

Read alsoHeating tariffs in Ukraine to almost double from July 1According to the deputy director, the tariff rates are approved by the NEURC taking into account proposals received from regional utility companies.

"The revision of tariffs is a systematic thing. We are carefully analyzing the structure of tariffs provided by our licensees [regional utility companies – UNIAN]. We do not allow any extra charges," Solomka added.

Read alsoStrategic advisor Miklos: "I don’t know any other country that is so far below its potential"As UNIAN reported earlier, on April 1, 2015 Ukrainian consumers saw a significant increase in electricity tariffs, while the preferential rate of power consumption was reduced to 100 kWh for all consumers, including residents of apartment buildings with electric stoves. Currently, electricity rate with a consumption level of up to 100 kWh is set at UAH 0.57 per kW\h. Households with a volume of consumption from 100 to 600 kW\h per month pay UAH 0.99 per kW\h. Households with the volume of consumption of more than 600 kW\h per month pay UAH 1.56 per kW\h. The next stage of increase in electricity tariffs will begin on September 1, 2016 and March 1, 2017.

On June 2, 2016, Kyivvodokanal water supply company addressed the NEURC with a request to raise tariffs for cold water supplies and wastewater collection to UAH 13.43 per cubic meter following  the increase in electricity tariffs.
