NBU may lower limit on cash settlements

Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Vladyslav Rashkovan said the NBU plans to reduce the upper limit on cash settlements, which is currently set at UAH 150,000.

"We are working with the relevant committee [of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine] to have this plan implemented," Rashkovan said.

At the same time it is necessary to allow citizens to use non-cash payments without any restrictions by developing the necessary infrastructure and enhancing levels of financial knowledge of the population, Rashkovan noted.

Rashkovan did not specify when exactly the regulator would revise cash payment limits.

"It will depend on our cooperation with the parliament," the deputy governor said.

Since September 1, 2013 Ukraine has limited cash payments made between enterprises (entrepreneurs) to UAH 10,000 within one day, and for individuals in settlements with companies (entrepreneurs) and settlements made between natural persons under purchase and sale contracts subject to notarization – to UAH 150,000 within one day.
