Additional UAH 4 bln monthly due to anti-smuggling measures at customs houses, Nasirov estimates

Head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine (SFSU) Roman Nasirov has estimated that the positive effect of de-shadowing and the fight against smuggling at Ukrainian customs houses has resulted in an additional 40%, or UAH 4 billion monthly.

"Last year, July through September, the average payments under VAT [value-added tax], which is the main tax during customs clearance of goods, stood at UAH 10-11 billion per month. In July, we collected UAH 14 billion in customs payments. I think in August this figure will reach UAH 14.5-15 billion. The additional 40%, or about UAH 4 billion monthly, over the last year is the effect of de-shadowing, the fight against smuggling and the prevention of violations of customs regulations through a more accurate determination of the customs value and classification of goods," Nasirov said.

He, however, noted that violations do occur, but they do not run into hundreds of millions of hryvnias.
