Ukraine saw a 8.3% increase in the volume of investment from Switzerland in the first half of 2016, the presidential press service reported citing President Petro Poroshenko.
The president said he was hopeful that the following meeting of the Ukrainian-Swiss Committee for Trade and Economic Cooperation planned for the end of September would further increase the pace of trade and investment between the two countries.
Poroshenko made the statement during a meeting with President of the National Council of Switzerland Christa Markwalder who was on a visit to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president noted that it was the first visit of the head of the lower house of the Swiss Parliament to Ukraine.
The president expressed gratitude to Switzerland for its committed position on non-recognition of the occupation of Crimea by Russia and the steps taken to prevent the use of Swiss territories by Russia for bypassing the EU imposed economic sanctions.
In her turn, Markwalder emphasized the exceptional importance of respect for the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of borders and supported Ukraine's strong position regarding the restoration of control over the Ukrainian-Russian state border, according to the press service.
