Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods estimated at $1.5 bln

Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods in January-August 2016 amounted to $1.465 billion as compared to a surplus of $548.5 million in the same period last year, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine reported on its website.

Goods exports from Ukraine in January-August 2016 fell by 9% year-over-year (y-o-y), to $22.719 billion, while goods imports dropped by 0.9%, to $24.184 billion.

The ratio of coverage of imports by exports was at 0.94 (1.02 in January-August 2015). Foreign trade operations in this period were carried out with partners from 219 countries.

Goods exports to the European Union countries climbed by 4.4% y-o-y, to $8.601 billion. Goods shipments to the EU accounted for 37.9% of overall exports.

Goods imports from the EU rose by 6.6%, to $10.617 billion and accounted for 43.9% of overall imports.

The statistics service said its report did not include information from a temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, Sevastopol, and Donbas.
