Advisor to the Interior Minister Zorian Shkiryak said the reform of the Interior Ministry may be put on hold due to lack of financing.
A total of UAH 41 billion has been earmarked for the ministry's needs next year, instead of UAH 60 billion which is required, according to Shkiryak.
"The minimum needed to continue reforms and ensure payments of salaries is UAH 60 billion. While we are provided with only UAH 41 billion," Shkiryak said, adding that the Interior Ministry may not avoid difficulties with salary payments unless the ministry's budget is revised.
He has specified that some UAH 300 million is allocated for fuel procurements, while the required minimum is UAH 1.2 billion.
In addition, Shkiryak noted that "this [insufficient funding] may disrupt the processes of reforming the law enforcement system, and lead to demoralization of law enforcement officers, because we will not be able to provide enough funding for paying salaries even at the current year’s level."
