Ukraine's state debt soars by $1.9 bln in Sept

The total sum of Ukraine's state and government-guaranteed debt as of the end of September 2016 stood at US$68.61 billion, which was 2.8%, or $1.9 billion, up on the beginning of that month, according to the Ukrainian Finance Ministry.

State and government-guaranteed debt in the hryvnia equivalent was UAH 1.778 trillion, which was 3.9%, or UAH 66.48 billion, up on the beginning of the month, the ministry said.

January through September 2016, state and government-guaranteed debt in the U.S. dollar equivalent expanded by 4.7%, or $3.11 billion, while the sum in the hryvnia equivalent rose by 13.1%, or UAH 205.68 billion.

As UNIAN reported earlier, state and state-guaranteed debt in hryvnias as of the end of August was UAH 1.708 trillion, which was 2.8%, or UAH 46.82 billion (about $1.8 billion at the current forex rate), up on the beginning of the month.

Experts estimated that the debt might grow to $68 billion, or 80% of GDP, by the end of 2016, and then it might decline to 75% of GDP in 2017.
