G7, EU envoys support Ukraine's central bank

The ambassadors of G7 and the European Union have expressed support for the institutional independence of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the press service of the regulator said, with reference to the meeting of NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva with envoys.

According to the NBU, the meeting was attended by Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli, German Ambassador to Ukraine Ernst Wolfgang Reichel, Italian Ambassador Davide La Cecilia, Canada's Ambassador Roman Waschuk, Japan's Ambassador Shigeki Sumi, U.S. Counselor for Economic Affairs William Laitinen, UK Ambassador Judith Gough, and French Ambassador Isabelle Dumont.

In particular, British Ambassador Judith Gough noted the progress made by the National Bank in the implementation of reforms.

In turn, the NBU governor expressed gratitude to the ambassadors of the Group of Seven and the EU for their fruitful cooperation and noted that without international support, Ukraine would not have any chance to stabilize the macroeconomic situation.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada's committee on financial policies and banking decided to propose to the Ukrainian president to submit a request to Parliament for Valeria Gontareva's resignation. Meanwhile, the Rada's major faction called this move unfounded.
