Ukraine to modernize Pakistan’s armored vehicles

Ukrainian defense industry will receive an order worth $600 million, according to the report by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.

The state-owned Ukrspecexport, which is part of UkrOboronProm State Concern, being Ukraine’s major arms exporter, on Wednesday, November 23 signed a $600 million contract with Pakistan for technical servicing, maintenance and modernization of main battle tanks, the report reads.

The parties reached an agreement in Pakistan, where Bukin Pavlo, Director General of the State Company Ukrspecexport, and Lieutenant General Syed Wajid Hussain, Chairman of Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), signed the Memorandum on Cooperation.

Ukraine’s Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak, First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleh Gladkovskyi, and Rana Tanveer Hussain, Pakistani Minister of Defense Production were present at the signing ceremony.

As UNIAN reported earlier, since the beginning of 2016, UkrOboronProm has signed arms export contracts worth $1.5 billion. The main customers are Saudi Arabia and Iraq. In addition, in the list of main exporters of Ukrainian weapons there are China, India, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, as well as a number of African countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Angola and Nigeria.

UNIAN memo. State Company Ukrspecexport is the main exporter of all kinds of weapons and military equipment (up to 85% of the volume of military-technical cooperation) from Ukraine. The company brings together a number of subsidiaries - machinery manufacturers.
