The Commercial Court of Kyiv has fully satisfied the claim of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (ACU) to the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom, brought for violation of Ukrainian competition law, and obliged Gazprom to pay UAH 171 billion fines and penalties on the claim, according to the ACU's statement, which is at the disposal at UNIAN.
"Today, December 5, the Commercial Court of Kyiv ruled in the case regarding the suit of the ACU to Russian Gazprom about the forced recovery of fines and penalties. The court granted the Committee's demands in full. The total amount of penalties is UAH 171 billion," the report says.
The ACU also reminded that the actual amount of the fine was UAH 85,966 billion, while the rest was penalties and other financial obligations.
Read alsoKyiv Commercial Court rejects Gazprom claim challenging ACU decision As UNIAN reported earlier, in January this year, the ACU fined Russia's gas company Gazprom UAH 85 billion (about $3.4 billion) for abusing its monopoly of Ukraine's gas transit market.
For its part, the European Commission formally charged Gazprom with abusing its dominant market position in Central and Eastern European gas markets in breach of the European Union's antitrust rules.

Due to Gazprom's failure to pay the mentioned fine, the ACU has filed the lawsuit with the Commercial Court of Kyiv demanding the forced recovery of the UAH 86 billion fine, as well as the recognition of an obligation to halt violations.
