Ukraine sees underground gas stocks decline by 4% in first eight days of Jan

The stocks of gas stored in Ukraine's underground storage facilities shrank by 4%, or 489 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas, on January 1-8, to 11.460 billion cubic meters (bcm) from 11.949 bcm, according to the operator of the Ukrainian gas transport system, state-run Ukrtransgaz.

Ukraine pumped out 86.3 mcm of gas from the underground storage facilities on January 8 alone, it said.

In particular, it defined amounts of fuel stocks needed to provide consumers with heating services and power supply.

In particular, the Ukrainian government determined that gas stocks in the underground storage facilities should not be less than 17 bcm.

At the same time, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine claims that 14.5 bcm is enough for a smooth heating season.
