Ukraine's Guarantee Fund pays over US$500 mln to bankrupt banks' depositors in 2016

Ukraine's Deposit Guarantee Fund since its creation in February 2012 had paid UAH 80.866 billion, or US$2.8 billion, to insolvent banks' depositors as of January 1, 2017, which was UAH 14.936 billion, or over US$500 million, up on January 1, 2016.

In the 12 months of 2016, regular fees paid by banks to the Fund totaled UAH 3.332 billion, the Fund said. Receipts from banks that were undergoing the liquidation procedure were UAH 7.220 billion, including UAH 3.915 billion from repaid loans, UAH 3.204 billion from the sale of their assets, and UAH 101 million from the lease of property, the Fund's press service said.

As of the beginning of 2017, there had been 99 banks participating in the Fund.

Late in December 2016, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers decided to issue government domestic loan bonds worth UAH 7.9 billion to issue loans to the Deposit Guarantee Fund.

In 2015, the Fund's resource shrank by 16.5%, or UAH 2.789 billion.
