Infrastructure Ministry stripped of control over Ukrainian Railways - media

The Cabinet of Ministers at its emergency meeting behind closed doors January 18 deprived the Infrastructure Ministry of control over Ukrzaliznytsya (Ukrainian Railways), according to Liga.net.

The Government approved the new Statute of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia stipulating that the Infrastructure Ministry ceases to be the company's management body, one of the ministers who attended the meeting has told Liga.net.

The proposal to amend the company statute was submitted by Minister of Economic Development - Deputy Prime Minister Stepan Kubiv, reads the report.

Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan gave his consent to the move despite some contradicting media reports.

He recalled that the management of Ukrzaliznytsia had been transferred under the Cabinet’s control more than a year ago. "But the impact of the ministry after this decision weakens - it's a fact," he said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan had repeatedly criticized the company top management’s performance.
