Industrial output in Ukraine rises after four-year drop

The industrial output grew by 2.4% in 2016 year-over-year, after a fall over the past four consecutive years, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

In December 2016, the industrial output accelerated from 3.7% in November 2016 to November 2015 to 4.5% y-o-y.

Compared with the previous month, the indices in December were up 1.9%.

According to the State Statistics Service, the largest increase in industrial output in 2016 compared with the previous year was recorded in manufacturing of computers, electronic and optical products - by 24.1%; manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products – by 8.1%; production of rubber and plastic products – by 6.5 %; metallurgy – by 5.9%; coal and lignite mining – by 4.8%; food industry - by 3.9%; pharmaceutical production - by 3.9%.

The State Statistics Service's reports do not include data from the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as occupied areas in Donbas.

According to estimates of the experts surveyed by UNIAN, Ukraine's economy in 2017 will continue the recovery trend. GDP growth may accelerate to 2.1% and industrial output - by 2.5%, while inflation will slow down to 10%.
