Ukraine sees pork, beef production growth in 2016

Ukraine boosted production of pork and beef in 2016 by 3.9% and 22.5%, respectively, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

Ukraine produced 256,000 tonnes of fresh and chilled pork in 2016, which was 3.9% up from 2015, the statistics service said.

Production of this type of meat rose by 9.1% in December 2016 alone, to 23,300 tonnes, from November 2016, but it was 4.6% down from December 2015.

The production of fresh and chilled beef was 22.5% up in 2016, to 59,400 tonnes, from 2015. Beef output in December 2016 alone was 6,100 tonnes, which was 9.7% up against November 2016 and 34.6% up from December 2015.

Production of frozen pork in 2016 totaled 12,100 tonnes, which was 23.3% down from 2015. In December 2016 alone, the production was 1,000 tonnes, which was 22% down against November 2016 and 0.6% up from December 2015.

Production of frozen beef fell by 31.3% in 2016, to 14,100 tonnes from 2015. The output in December 2016 alone was 2,200 tonnes, which was 24.8% up from November 2016, and 11.1% down from December 2015.

Production of frozen poultry in 2016 totaled 245,000 tonnes, which was 40.2% up from 2015. In December 2016 alone, the figure stood at 25,800 tonnes, which was 15.9% up from November 2016, and 65.8% up from December 2015.

Sausage production shrank by 0.9% in 2016 from 2015, to 233,000 tonnes. In December 2016 alone, the output was 20,500 tonnes, which was 1.4% up from November 2016 and 1.7% down from December 2015.

The State Statistics Service noted that its statistical data excluded reports from the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone in eastern Ukraine.

As UNIAN reported earlier, production of frozen pork in Ukraine rose by 10.1% in 2015 from 2014, to 15,800 tonnes. At the same time, production of frozen beef in 2015 fell by 11.3% from 2014, to 14,900 tonnes, while production of frozen poultry grew by 15.7%, to 175,000 tonnes.
