Ukraine's chief banker expects four IMF tranches in 2017

Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva says that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) could extend four disbursements to Ukraine in 2017, and the first one is expected to arrive in early February.

"There are four tranches," he told journalists on Thursday, January 26, when answering a question how many IMF disbursements to Ukraine are scheduled under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) this year.

Answering a question when the first one is to arrive, she said: "Very soon. We've got US$15.5 billion [in international reserves]. We're expecting another $1 billion from the IMF. If it happens early in February – there will be no tragedy."

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine resumed cooperation with the IMF under a four-year $17.5 billion EFF program in September 2016 after more than a year's break. Under this program, the country has already received three loan tranches totaling $7.62 billion.
