Privatization of Centrenergo can be delayed until 2018

Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine Ihor Bilous has admitted postponement of privatization of 78.3% of the shares of a major energy generating company Centrenergo until 2018, whereas the sale was previously scheduled for the first quarter of 2017, according to the SPF website.

"We started to select a [privatization] advisor. When we choose one, he will engage in the preparation of Centrenergo for privatization. Whether it happens in 2017 or 2018, it will be fine," the SPF press service quoted Bilous as saying.

According to Bilous, investors from China, Korea, Turkey, and India are interested in the state-owned asset.

The State Property Fund in May last year expressed the intention to sell the state-owned stake in Centrenergo in the first quarter of 2017.

PJSC Centrenergo is one of Ukraine’s leading electricity producers. The company consists of three thermal power plants – in Vuhlehirska, Zmiivska, and Tripilska – with the total installed capacity of 7,665 MW, which is 14% of Ukraine’s generating capacity. Centrenergo supplies electricity to Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions.
