Case against Agrarian Ministry official brought to court

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has sent an indictment for consideration of Kyiv's Shevchenko district court against an official of Ukraine's Agrarian Ministry who was detained for a USD 150,000 bribe, the NABU press service told UNIAN.

"The pre-trial investigation into the receipt of undue benefits by the Agrarian Ministry's official in the amount of USD 150,000 has been completed. The indictment approved by prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office was sent to Kyiv's Shevchenko district court on January 27," a statement read.

The official is accused of having committed crime under Part. 4, Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (accepting an offer, promise or receipt of unlawful benefit by an official). If found guilty, the official faces from 8 to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.

The mentioned ministry official (division head, acting director of the Agrarian Ministry's Department of state property governance) is said to have demanded and received a bribe of USD 150,000 from a businessman for agreeing the liquidation estate of a bankrupt enterprise and participating in the auction with the view to acquiring the property of such enterprise.

As was earlier reported, on August 2, 2016, the NABU detectives detained the acting director of the state property management department of the Ministry. Cash received as a bribe was seized during searches of the official's car.
