Ukraine's oil and gas giant, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, in 2016 bought gas from 15 European companies, according to its press service.
"In 2016, Naftogaz imported 8.2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas from the European market, which was 1 bcm, or 11% down from the previous year. Total gas imports of Naftogaz from all areas decreased by 47% compared to 2015. There were 15 European suppliers that shipped natural gas to Naftogaz in 2016. None of these companies supplies more than 30% of imported gas," the press service said.
The share of Naftogaz in gas imports decreased in favor of private importers in 2016, it said. Last year, private companies imported 2.6 times more gas than in 2015, namely 2.9 bcm compared to 1.1 bcm.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the share of private companies engaged in the import of natural gas to Ukraine from Europe stood at 26% in 2016 against 1% in 2014.
In 2016, Ukraine imported 11.1 bcm of gas from the EU alone. In particular, 1 bcm came from Slovakia, 1 bcm from Hungary, and 1 bcm from Poland.
A law on the natural gas market came into force in Ukraine on October 1, 2015, under which the state-run energy holding Naftogaz of Ukraine shall be stripped of its monopoly on the market.
