Ukraine reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund on the preparation of the draft law on land reform before late May of this year, Danyliuk told reporters Monday.

"We need to prepare a bill and submit it before the end of May," the minister said.

According to him, along with the bill, a regulatory framework must be developed for its implementation.

Earlier, the minister noted that Ukraine expected to complete negotiations with the IMF on the third revision of the reform program before the end of the week.

As UNIAN reported earlier, October 6, 2016 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine extended the moratorium, introduced back in 2001, on farmland sale until 2018. October 28, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law.

The draft law is now being developed by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, in collaboration with other responsible agencies.

Experts and the public have no shared opinion over the ban lift. Some believe its extension creates a shadow land market, while others argue that the lifting of the moratorium will lead to the fact that regular farmers will be deprived of their land while foreign companies will buy it off.
