Cabinet not yet to introduce state of emergency in energy sector; anti-crisis measures launched

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has decided not to introduce a state of emergency in the electricity market, the possibility of which was discussed at a meeting of the Anti-crisis energy staff on Monday, February 13, but a specific set of anti-crisis measures has already been launched, Deputy Prime Minister Hennadiy Zubko said following today's government meeting.

"The meeting of the Anti-crisis energy staff took place, where the measures that need to be worked out were outlined. The Minister of Energy and Coal Industry has been instructed to prepare the information on what needs to be done," Zubko said.

"It is obvious that the population should be provided with heat and electricity. Therefore, it doesn't matter if it is a matter of one or two days. But the process of anti-crisis measures has already been launched," Zubko said, noting that it was about the imposition of measures which would allow thermal generation power units to operate in full swing.

"This does not apply to special provision for the population. This applies to the stable operation of the power system," Zubko added.
