Ukrainians pay UAH 1.4 bln in real estate tax in 2016, twice the sum of 2015

Local budget revenue from real estate other than plots of land in 2016 amounted to UAH 1.419 billion, or nearly US$53 million, which is 1.9 times up on 2015, according to the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine.

Of the sum, UAH 1.209 billion was paid by legal entities and UAH 0.210 billion by individuals, the service told UNIAN.

Local budget revenue in 2015 stood at UAH 745.7 million.

UNIAN memo. As of January 1, 2017, Ukrainians are subject to taxation on flats and houses under new law No. 1791-VIII dated December 20, 2016, which amended the Tax Code and other legal acts. Flats with an area of over 60 square meters and private houses with an area over 120 square meters are now taxable, but the tax rate shall not exceed 3% of the minimum wage (now the minimum wage is UAH 3,200, or about $119) per square meter a year.

Tax rates for the current year are set by local councils.
