Ukraine sees pork prices rise by 15% in Feb

Purchase prices of premium pork in Ukraine have increased by 15%, to about UAH 37, or US$1.37, per kilogram in live weight since early February, according to the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club's press service.

However, the price of a trimmed pork half-carcass grew by 12%, to UAH 64, or $2.37, per kilogram, for the reporting period, it said.

The price rise was due to the cancellation of reduced tax rates for farmers, the doubled minimum wage, an increase in production costs (fodder, fuel, etc.) and recent outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in the country.

The National Bank of Ukraine raised its inflation forecast for 2017 from 8% to 9.1% and kept it for 2018 at the level of 6%, which corresponds to the previously announced targets of 8% ± 2 percentage points and 6% ± 2 percentage points respectively.
