Ukraine sees 15.2% decline in new housing in 2016

Commissioning of new housing in Ukraine, excluding the occupied Crimea, decreased by 15.2% in 2016 from 2015, to 9.367 million square meters, according to Ukraine's State Statistics Service.

Last year, 6.5 million square meters of housing was commissioned in cities and towns, while 2.86 million square meters of housing was put into operation in rural areas. Some 43.7% of total housing was commissioned as single-family houses, the share of houses with two or more apartments was 56%, while public housing accounted for 0.3%, the agency said.

However, a mere 30,300 square meters, or 0.3% of total commissioned housing, was built with the use of budget funds, which was 42.3% down from 2015.

As UNIAN reported earlier, commissioning of new housing in Ukraine grew by 13.3% in 2015 from 2014, to 11 million square meters.
