Ukraine sees 72.2% decline in deficit of foreign trade in goods

Ukraine's deficit of foreign trade in commodities was estimated at US$ 86.7 million in January 2017, compared to a $308.7 million deficit year-over-year (y-o-y), according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service's website.

Goods exports from Ukraine in January 2017 grew by 48.1% y-o-y, to $3.026 billion, while goods imports were 32.4% up y-o-y, to $3.112 billion, the service said in a statement.

The ratio of coverage of imports by exports was 0.97 in January 2017 against 0.87 y-o-y.

Goods exports to the EU in January 2017 grew by 25.6% y-o-y, to $1.194 billion, and accounted for 39.5% of total exports, according to the statistical data released.

Imports of goods from the EU countries in January 2017 rose by 5.2% from January 2016, to $1.210 billion, accounting for 38.9% of total imports.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the foreign trade deficit in Ukraine in 2016 was estimated at $2.886 billion against a $610.7 million surplus recorded in 2015.
