Ukraine reports economy growth in 2016, 1st time since 2012

Ukraine’s gross domestic product as a whole has grown 2.3% in 2016 compared with 2015, according to the latest report by the State Statistics Service.

According to the data released, GDP growth was recorded for the first time in four years after the economy showed a 9.8% plunge in 2015 and a 6.6% drop in 2014. In 2013 GDP, the country’s GDP did not grow a bit.

The agency also quotes the updated quarterly GDP estimates. In the first quarter of 2016, GDP grew by 0.1% by the first quarter of 2015, and by 0.5%  – to the previous quarter; while nominal GDP amounted to UAH 455.637 billion.

In the second quarter, GDP grew by 1.5% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, and by 0.9% - to the previous quarter; while nominal GDP amounted to UAH 535.324 billion.

In the third quarter, GDP grew by 2.3% against the third quarter of 2015, and by 1.4% to the previous quarter; while nominal GDP amounted to UAH 669.170 billion.

In the fourth quarter, GDP increased by 4.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, and by 1.9% compared to the previous quarter; while nominal GDP amounted to UAH 723.051 billion.

Previously, both the Government and the National Bank published almost similar estimates, stating a 2.2% GDP growth in 2016.
