Gross external debt of Ukraine as of January 1, 2017, was estimated at US$113.483 billion, which was by $5.26 billion, or 4.4%, less than January 1, 2016, according to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) website.
Gross external debt shrank by $2.532 billion, or 2.2%, in Q4 2016, the NBU said.
The general government debt decreased by 2.8% in Q4 2016, while growing by 1.1%, to UAH 36.339 billion in 2016.
The central bank's debt decreased by 3.7% in Q4 2016 and by 6.9% for the last year, to UAH 6.242 billion. The debt of other depository corporations shrank by 5.7% in Q4 2016 and by 30.1% in 2016, to UAH 8.966 billion.

Direct investments (inter-firm debt) decreased by 0.9% in Q4 2016, but they increased by 0.6% in January-December 2016, to UAH 8.614 billion.
As UNIAN reported, the gross external debt of Ukraine decreased by $7.6 billion, or by 6%, in 2015 from 2014, to $118.729 billion.
