Belarus bans pork from Ukraine's Vinnytsia region

The Republic of Belarus has temporarily banned shipments of pork from Ukraine's Vinnytsia region due to African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks, according to a local regulator.

"According to the International Epizootic Bureau's update as of April 3, 2017, cases of African swine fever among susceptible species had been recorded in Vinnytsia region of Ukraine," the Department of Veterinary and Food Inspection of Belarus' Ministry of Agriculture and Food said in a statement on its website.

Also, the department imposed restrictions on imports of Ukrainian fodder and additives of plant and animal origin for animals, including poultry and fish, as well as equipment used for transportation, caging, slaughter and cutting of pigs.

The restrictions are also applicable to fodder for cats and dogs that is produced without heating to temperatures above 70 degrees Celsius.

In total, 212 ASF outbreaks have been reported in Ukraine since 2012.
