Chief prosecutor Lutsenko reports about seizure of telecoms giant's shares

To ensure the state interests and redeem losses, Kyiv's Pechersky court has satisfied a claim filed by the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) to seize shares of Ukrainian telecoms giant Ukrtelecom and its mobile division, Trimob.

"The PGO department combatting organized crime has been investigating the illegal allocation of UAH 220 million [$8.17 million] from the national budget of Ukraine on [ex-president Viktor] Yanukovych's order and the privatization of 93% of Ukrtelecom's shares at an artificially low price of UAH 1.6 billion [$59 million]," he wrote on Facebook on Thursday, April 13.

UNIAN info. Ukrtelecom is the largest landline communications service provider in Ukraine, and also a leader on the broadband Internet access market with more than 1.6 million subscribers. The controlling stake in the company is owned by SCM Group, which belongs to Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov.

Trimob was set up by Ukrtelecom in September 2011.
