Almost US$77 mln in utilities subsidies paid to Ukrainians in Q1 2017

Some UAH 2.065 billion, or US$77.2 million, in subsidies was paid to Ukrainians from the national budget to compensate housing and utilities costs in January-March 2017 (Q1 2017), which was 12.7% up year-over-year (y-o-y), according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service.

In particular, subsidies worth UAH 1.361 billion, or $50.86 million, were paid to residents in urban areas, while UAH 704.2 million, or $26.32 million, was paid to rural residents.

Housing and utilities subsidies in Q1 2017 were assigned to 1.395 million households (117.5% of those who applied for subsidies, including the families that filed applications in 2016 but received subsidies only in 2017). Some 965,200 families entitled to subsidies live in urban areas, while 429,600 households that received compensation for utilities are located in rural areas. The number of families with assigned subsidies over the period under review increased by 0.9% y-o-y, the service reported.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in January-February 2017 subsidies to reimburse housing and utilities costs were estimated at UAH 1.636 billion, which was 14% up y-o-y.

Ukrainian residents in 2016 received UAH 5.7 billion in housing and utilities subsidies from the budget, which was 58%, or UAH 3.3 billion, up from 2015.
