IMF expects Ukraine to launch land market ASAP

Ukraine's key lender, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects from Ukraine launching the market of both state-owned and private land, IMF Resident Representative in Ukraine Jerome Vacher told the international conference of agricultural investors.

He claimed that the implementation of land reform would lead to an additional growth in the Ukrainian agrarian sector, which has a very large potential. Vacher also noted that Ukraine should launch the land market as soon as possible.

It is desirable that the land market start operating in Ukraine as early as 2018, according to the official, who added that, at the same time, the market should remain transparent, the official added.

In particular, the IMF memorandum envisages the adoption by Ukraine of a law regulating the agricultural land turnover, and launch of its sale starting 2018, after the end of the moratorium.
